Let's Talk Coats

The wool coat is the curliest of the four Cavoodle coat types.
Dogs with wool coat have two copies of the curl genetic markers - One from each parent. Wool coats require maintenance including regular brushing. Breeder may nudge asthma/allergy sufferers towards this coat type.

Fleece/wavy coats are common in all generations of Cavoodles.
A fleecy coat puppy is soft and wavy , adult coats tend to be more curly in appearance. Dogs with fleece coat have one copy of the curl genetic marker. Fleece coats require moderate maintenance and grooming to prevent matting and to keep the coat tidy.

The shaggy coat has become a desirable coat for those involved in multi-generational Cavoodle / Theodore breeding. This coat is smooth and silky in texture and is less likely to matt. With genetic testing breeders are informed about coat requirements and you will see this become a more common coat type in the coming years, as at this time there are only a small number of these coats in our breeding environment

The straight/smooth or feather coat can occur in all cavoodle generations. These dogs have two copies of the recessive "Improper coat" gene - also know as being Un-furnished (no beard or moustache) Recent improvements in genetic testing has meant that we can make informed decisions about these crosses. While still adorable these dogs may shed but often retain their vivid colours and have low grooming needs.
